Natural Skin Savers

Sure you can go to the local pharmacy or big-box store to find modern remedies for practically any skincare ailment that might arise. But wouldn’t you feel better about yourself, your budget, and your planet if you make use of all-natural products, right in your own home, and right from your own cupboard?

Some Natural (and Delicious) Skin Remedies to Try

Apple cider vinegar. This fruity condiment is great on salads, but it can be an ally against acne as well. Try using it on a cotton pad in place of a toner and feel the tightening effects on your pores. Apple cider vinegar is also useful for treating dandruff. Mix equal parts vinegar and water in a spray bottle, then spray your scalp after showering and let dry.

Honey. Instead of purchasing a complexion mask in a plastic tube or shiny foil package, go to the pantry for your pampering. Before your next shower, slather some honey on a clean face and leave on for 15 minutes. It will wash right off with warm water, and you’ll be treated to a moisturized, smooth face.

Oatmeal. If your skin seems dull and you feel the need for exfoliation, try oatmeal. Pulse store-bought oats (not the instant kind) in your blender once or twice. Mix the miniature flakes into a squirt of your regular cleaner and apply to your face using a circular motion. Sensitive skin will love this treatment.

Granulated sugar. Wanting a more aggressive facial scrub but want to skip the skin-damaging walnut or apricot hulls in the drugstore brand? Try adding a small amount of granulated sugar to a little of your facial cleanser or liquid body wash (aim for about equal amounts) and rub in circular motions over your face, arms, legs – really, anywhere you’d like to smooth out.

Coconut oil. Commercial makeup removers contain solvents and other chemicals to dissolve the oils and pigments in cosmetics. Try a small blob of organic, raw coconut oil (you’ll find it in the baking or oil area in a well-stocked or natural grocery store) instead. Use your fingertips to warm and soften the coconut oil, and then gently rub into the skin and eyelashes. Just as gently, use cotton pads to remove. You can wash with cleanser after this or leave the coconut oil on overnight as a moisturizer.

The 5 Best Crystals for Boosting Your Mood

People turn to healing crystals for a variety of reasons. Some provide warmth and love; others bring clear thinking and knowledge. And the skincare and beauty researchers at Kristals Cosmetics and other skincare companies harness their powers for your skin and overall well-being.

Perhaps one of the greatest powers of crystals, however, is simply their ability to enhance your mood. With that in mind, here are five crystals that seem to have the biggest impact in that arena.

The 5 Best Crystals for Boosting Your Mood

#1 Rose Quartz

Calming and soothing, the pink hues of rose quartz can wrap you in warmth and bring about feelings of harmony and love. If you’re trying to heal from a broken or troubled relationship, rose quartz is capable of bringing that peace to you.

#2 Aventurine

Though it’s available in several colors, the green shade of aventurine is traditionally known as a stone of luck. It will make you feel more fortunate and confident simply by carrying it around with you. Overall, the luck imparted by aventurine can lead to improved self-esteem and a better sense of one’s worth.

#3 Amethyst

Amethyst is a crystal that answers to a higher power. In practice, it boosts your mood by lending clarity, a heightened consciousness and an end to confusion. If stress and anxiety are constants on your heart and mind, then amethyst can lend a helping hand. Here’s a review on the New Spirit Journal on how it benefits your skin, too.

Keys for Getting Started with Crystals

People have been intrigued by the healing powers of crystals for centuries. For the skincare and beauty researchers at Kristals Cosmetics and other skincare companies, those powers are harnessed in the form of finely ground gemstone powders for the skin.

But crystals can heal your body and soul in other ways, as well. And as it turns out, getting started using the healing powers of crystals is actually not all that difficult. Here are a few tips to help you get started.

#1 Try Wearing It or Carrying It
If you’ve found a crystal that you feel drawn to, really the best first step is to just try to “bond” with the crystal. You can make it into a necklace that you wear, or put in a bag to carry around in your pocket or purse. Either way, spending some time with the crystal is a good way to feel out its healing power and make the most of it.

#2 Put It in a Room Where You Feel Comfortable
Other than having it on your person, another approach to healing crystals is to place them in a room where you spend a lot of time and are at your most relaxed and thoughtful. You can absorb the power of the crystals in this setting, and they can assert their healing power on both you and the room itself.

#3 Harness Their Powers Both at Work & Rest
Two other places where crystals can have a positive impact are at your desk at work and on your nightstand beside your bed. In either instance, they can have a calming, focused presence that can help you either settle in for the task at hand or relax so you can sleep.

#4 Use It to Think & Meditate
As you become more familiar with the crystal, you can start to place it on your heart while you meditate, or even hold it in your hand while you sleep. These steps can enhance the bond and increase the crystal’s healing power.

#5 If It’s Not Working, Try Another One
Different crystals work for different people, and your first inclination might not always be the right one. It might require trying a few different crystals before you find the right one for you.

Why Gemstones Became Huge in Cosmetics

There’s no question that there are some dubious, questionable and downright strange approaches to skincare and cosmetic routines. For example, celebrities such as Kate Middleton and Gwyneth Paltrow have been known to use products with bee venom in their skincare routine, while Kim Kardashian has done a facial with her own blood.

At first glance, gemstones in cosmetics seem to be just another fad along these lines. But as the skincare and beauty researchers at Kristals Cosmetics and other companies began to examine the power of these stones, they began to find real, tangible results for your skin. Here’s how they can help.

#1 Amethyst Detoxifies and Purifies
This semiprecious gemstone in cosmetics seems to draw toxins and other impurities out of the skin, while at the same time boosting the body’s natural antioxidant potential. The end result is a base ingredient for skincare products that helps detoxify, purify and revitalize the skin. This makes amethyst a star gemstone for cosmetics.

#2 Amber Evens Out Skin Tone
This smooth, organically formed gemstone can be ground into a fine powder that has a number of powerful properties when used in cosmetics. In particular, amber appears to have a balancing effect, diminishing the appearance of dark spots and helping with pigmentation issues by evening out the skin tone.

#3 Pearl Promotes Healthy Cell Growth
The gemstone of the sea also appears to be quite useful when ground into a powder for cosmetics and other skincare products. Pearl has been traditionally known as a powerful stimulator of cell and tissue growth. When it comes to the skin, this occurs in the form of collagen and elastin to promote healthy, youthful-looking skin.

#4 Rose Quartz Stimulates the Immune System
This semi-precious gemstone has been used as a healer for thousands of years. In cosmetics, rose quartz seems to have immune-boosting potential, while also promoting healthy cell growth. It’s why Kristals Cosmetics and other companies turn to this powerful gemstone in their cosmetics.

Kristals Cosmetics Tips: How Amethyst Helps the Skin

In jewelry form, the purple amethyst may be regarded as a “semi-precious” stone. But when it comes to taking care of your skin, it truly is second to none. The gem just seems to have quite a few unique properties for skin care that make it stand out from the pack. And it’s more than just a one-trick pony. It treats and enhances the skin in several different ways.

There are several reasons why the skincare and beauty researchers at Kristals Cosmetics and other companies have incorporated amethyst into their products. Here’s how it can help the skin.

#1 It Purifies and Detoxifies
Amethyst is known as a purifier and revitalizer. It produces negative ions that draw toxins out of the skin and leave it refreshed and pure. The finely ground particles also provide a gentle exfoliating effect to renew and refresh.

#2 It Relaxes and Heals
Amethyst evokes a sense of calm and relaxation when applied to the skin. This sense of inner peace can set the stage for healing as your body moves into a more relaxed state.

#3 It Boosts Antioxidant Activity in the Body
Some research has shown that amethyst actually boosts the antioxidant activity that occurs within the body and the skin. This gives your body more power to fight free radicals. This can prevent wrinkles from occurring in the first place and even repair wrinkles after they occur.

#4 It Works Great with Other Skincare Ingredients
Finally, amethyst serves as an excellent base ingredient for other highly effective skincare and beauty products. For example, the skincare and beauty researchers at Kristals Cosmetics mix amethyst with ingredients such as lactic acid, alpha hydroxy acid, shea butter and other highly effective ingredients to nourish the skin and fight the signs of aging. Indigo, rose quartz and garnet are other crystals that seem to promote inner beauty.

As it turns out, some of these metaphysical properties of crystals on beauty also translate to real, tangible properties, in the form of crystals used in skincare and beauty products. The skincare and beauty researchers at Kristals Cosmetics harness the following crystals in their line of beauty products.

Why Gold is Great for Anti-Aging

Gold has been used as a beauty enhancer since at least the time of the ancient Egyptians. And while modern studies have yet to prove the effect of gold on your skin, dozens of people, as well as skincare and beauty companies, swear by the stuff.

In practice, gold as part of your skincare and beauty routine seems to help fight the signs of aging in a number of different ways. We spoke with the skincare and beauty researchers at Kristals Cosmetics to find out how.

#1 It May Have Anti-Inflammatory Properties
Several medical experts believe that gold fights the signs of inflammation in the body to help prevent disease and other problems. In fact, many doctors will prescribe gold as a treatment for the pain of rheumatoid arthritis. Some experts think these same anti-inflammatory properties can fight the free radicals that lead to wrinkles and other signs of aging.

#2 Gold Nanoparticles Help with Healing
The newest technology in gold is known as nanoparticles, which is essentially the ability to break down gold into very tiny particles. A recent study of gold nanoparticles found that they helped with wound healing on the skin.

#3 Gold May Enhance the Ability of Other Ingredients
Along with its own specific anti-aging properties, many believe the gold serves as an excellent carrier for other effective skincare ingredients, thus enhancing their abilities. For example, Kristals Cosmetics adds ingredients like vitamin E, Retinyl Palmitate and others to its gold-based skincare products.

#4 It Makes You Glow
One indisputable fact about gold skincare products is that they impart a healthy, radiant glow. Many report that their skin positively beams with radiance after a gold-based facial or other treatment. And that on its own can serve as an anti-aging property, at least in the short-term.

4 Secrets to Gemstone Beauty

For centuries gemstones and crystals have been part of the healing tradition of all kinds of civilizations. For example, the ancient Egyptians protected their dead by burying them with quartz crystals. And the Chinese would often use crystal-tipped acupuncture needles as part of their medical treatments.

But they also have great potential to be used in skincare, as researchers from Kristals Cosmetics discovered when they looked at the lore surrounding gemstones, crystals and precious metals and tested their skincare properties. Here’s what they found:

#1 Even out Skin Tone with Amber
This smooth, organically occurring gemstone has a natural balancing effect when ground into a powder and added to skincare products. Not only does it give the skin elasticity, but it can also even out your complexion and help with dark spots or other pigmentation issues. Kristals Cosmetics frequently pairs amber with vitamin C to boost its antioxidant potential. This is true for its Amber Multi-Vitamin C Brightening Serum, its Amber Multi-Vitamin C Hydration Cream and its Amber Multi-Vitamin C Dark Spot Corrector.

#2 Feed Skin with Oxygen Using Amethyst
There’s no question that oxygen can provide a boost of freshness and youth to the skin. Many people are now turning to oxygen facials to refresh the skin and boost the growth of new cells and collagen.

With that in mind, Kristals Cosmetics researchers leveraged the power of amethyst, which traditionally has been used for a number of respiratory ailments, to boost the levels of oxygen to the skin. The result was products like Amethyst Oxygen Instant Energizing Activating Serum. It pairs oxygen-boosting amethyst with ingredients like lactic acid and alpha hydroxy acid to exfoliate and nourish the skin.

#3 Firm Skin with the Power of Pearl
Science has shown that skin components like collagen and elastin are keys in keeping your skin looking renewed and refreshed. When these skin components start to disappear due to age or neglect, the result can be saggy skin.

However, pearl is well-known historically for stimulating cell growth and regeneration. And Kristals Cosmetics product formulators examined whether pearl would work in modern formulations and discovered that it’s a superb complement to skincare superstars like hydrotensyl complex that delivers much-needed collagen and elastin to the skin to stop sagging and firm it up in products such as their Pearl Neck & Chest Extra Firming Cream.

#4 Fade out Wrinkles with Sapphire
Sapphire is known as the wisdom stone, and this gemstone traditional brings calm and peace through clarity. Kristals Cosmetics enhances its healing power with added ingredients such as retinol in its Sapphire Retinol Age Correcting Cream.

The Beauty-Boosting Vitamins You Need to Be Taking

There is no single vitamin that contributes more the other for skin health, so it is recommended to maintain a balanced supply of vitamins and minerals. Vitamins are an essential part of the health and welfare of the body and beauty. The important role of vitamins has been widely recognized by the industry of cosmetics and skincare. You can choose a variety of products for your skin from Kristals Cosmetics, which formulates gemstone-infused skincare products that also include powerfully calibrated doses of key antioxidant vitamins that work well with gemstones to product powerful, lasting effects to refresh and revitalize skin. With that in mind, here’s a look at the vitamins that help boost beauty.

Vitamin A: This fundamental vitamin is great not only for overall nutrition but also when used in skincare products. Retinol is a vitamin A derivative that has been proven to work to smooth wrinkles and nourish skin.

Vitamin C: Products with this key vitamin will refine the skin texture, pigmentation and significantly improve the skin texture. That said, keep in mind that topical vitamin C must be kept in dark containers, because clear or light containers will allow in sunlight, which destroys the skincare benefits of vitamin C creams.

Vitamin E: This crucial component in cells helps to improve the immune system to prevent cell degeneration. The reason why this vitamin has been added to cosmetic creams is because it improves the elasticity of the skin and reduces wrinkles. Its anti-inflammatory properties help the skin in its natural regenerative process and provide natural protection against ultraviolet rays and negative effects.

Panthenol: Also known as provitamin B5, this is a superb moisturizer and also known soothing inflamed skin. It works well when paired with skin-soothing gemstones such as aventurine, among others.

Skip These 7 Skincare Myths

Attempting to preserve radiant, glowing and youthful skin can often be a tricky road. There’s so much information out there that it can be difficult to tell what really, truly works. And the worst result is when something that’s generally accepted as good for your skin is actually pretty bad.

To help sort through the clutter, we spoke with the skincare and beauty researchers at Kristals Cosmetics. They helped us determine the skincare “advice” that you should probably avoid at all costs.

#1 Hypoallergenic Means Good for Sensitive Skin
In truth, the claim “hypoallergenic” on a product has become a bit of a buzzword and actually isn’t regulated or tested in any way. In fact, some hypoallergenic products even seem to cause allergies, so it’s best to not use this phrase as the determining factor when choosing products.

#2 Higher SPFs Mean More Sun Protection
The SPF, or sun protection factor, only measures the protection against UVB rays. But the sun also produces harmful UVA and UVC rays, too. A broad spectrum sunscreen is a better choice.

#3 You Should Stay within a Skincare Product Family
There’s a feeling of consistency when you choose products in a family line, but the reality is that they may not all be formulated the same to work well for you. Some picking and choosing is fine as you’re choosing the products that work best.

#4 Natural Always Means Good for Your Skin
Like organic or hypoallergenic, natural is another skincare buzzword. And while some natural products are great, plenty of natural ingredients, such as coconut or citrus, are natural skin irritants.

#5 People with Oily Skin Should Avoid Oily Moisturizers
If you have oily skin, your inclination might be to cleanse, cleanse, cleanse. But people with oily skin can dry it out and cause blemishes and irritation just like everyone else. A regular moisturizer is still an important part of their daily routine.

#6 Lavender Is Great for Irritated Skin
Speaking of natural ingredients, lavender has long been touted as a good one to soothe the skin. Unfortunately, some people become more sensitive to the sun as a result of using it regularly, which can lead to even greater problems.

#7 Tanning Beds Are Fine to Use
This myth has been around for some time now, but unfortunately it’s just not true. The bottom line is that tanning beds can be every bit as dangerous as the sun.
